Port Blair: Sending out a strong message that the future of the nation depends on healthy, focused and responsible youth, the Anti-Drug Squad of JNRM organised an awareness programme on ‘Say No to Narcotic Drugs’, urging students to channel their energy into constructive pursuits rather than falling prey to substance abuse.
Delivering the keynote address, Parag Chaturvedi, Commandant, HQ SSB (Assam), highlighted the alarming rise in drug abuse across the country. Backing his address with facts and statistics, he explained India’s vulnerability to drug trafficking owing to its strategic location between the Golden Triangle and the Golden Crescent, making awareness and vigilance among the youth more important than ever.
Presiding over the programme held at the college lecture gallery, Principal Dr. Pearl Devdas appealed to students to stay away from narcotic drugs and invest their time and talents in positive, creative and productive activities that would help shape a meaningful future. She emphasised that success is built on discipline, determination and healthy choices, not on destructive habits that can derail promising lives.
The programme featured a video presentation depicting the devastating consequences of substance abuse, followed by an interactive session in which students discussed the dangers of addiction and ways to resist peer pressure.
Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Dr. K. V. Ramana Murthy, Associate Professor and Chairman of the Anti-Drug Squad, said that healthy, drug-free youth are the foundation of a strong and progressive nation.
