Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram): For families accompanying sick relatives from the Nicobar Islands, waiting outside a hospital ward can be a test of endurance. At G.B. Pant Hospital, that hardship has now eased somewhat, with air coolers installed at the designated waiting area following the intervention of Lt. Governor Dr. Dinesh Sharma.

During his recent visit to the hospital, Dr. Sharma noticed the difficulties faced by relatives and attendants who spend long hours at the facility while caring for their patients, particularly amid the prevailing heat. He directed the authorities to provide adequate cooling arrangements at the earliest.

The directions were acted upon promptly, with air coolers now installed at the waiting facility meant for relatives and attendants of Nicobari patients. For families required to remain at the hospital for extended periods, the facility is expected to provide much-needed relief from the heat and make the waiting area more comfortable.

The seemingly small intervention carries significance for families who travel from remote islands for specialised medical treatment and may have to spend considerable time in Sri Vijaya Puram supporting their loved ones.

The initiative also underlines a broader patient-care approach in which attention is extended beyond treatment itself to the basic comfort and dignity of patients’ families and attendants.
