Port Blair (Sri Vijay Puram): A sharper focus on implementation, monitoring and accountability took centre stage at the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting for South Andaman, with Member of Parliament Bishnu Pada Ray calling for closer coordination among departments to ensure that government schemes translate into timely benefits for people.
The meeting, held at the Conference Hall of Disaster Management, South Andaman, was chaired by the MP and attended by Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Ms Purva Garg, Chairperson, Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council, heads of departments and representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions who are members of the South Andaman DISHA Committee.
The meeting reviewed the implementation of 66 government schemes across 18 departments, with discussions focusing on developmental priorities, administrative efficiency and the effectiveness of delivery mechanisms. Ray stressed the importance of collaborative governance within the constitutional framework defining the respective responsibilities of the Central Government, UT Administration and local bodies.
The MP also called for timely implementation of schemes and stronger monitoring to ensure that intended benefits reach the public without delay.
During the review, the MP offered observations and suggestions aimed at improving administrative efficiency, strengthening monitoring mechanisms and expediting implementation of developmental programmes.
Taking the review forward, Deputy Commissioner Purva Garg directed all concerned departments to submit, within one week, detailed reports on the observations made by the MP and the action taken on them.
The next DISHA review meeting has been scheduled for the last week of September 2026, when the compliance status and progress on the directions issued during the present meeting will be reviewed. The meeting concluded with instructions for regular follow-up and intensified monitoring, signalling a renewed push to accelerate development and improve public service delivery across South Andaman.
