Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram): Adding a new attraction to the popular Corbyn’s Cove waterfront, the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC) has opened an aquarium showcasing the rich diversity of fish species found in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The facility is expected to offer residents and tourists an opportunity to explore the islands’ marine wealth while combining recreation with awareness about the region’s unique marine biodiversity. Besides providing an additional attraction for visitors, the initiative is aimed at promoting greater public appreciation of the fragile marine ecosystem of the islands.
The aquarium will remain open from 8 am to 8 pm, with a lunch break between 12 noon and 2 pm. Entry has been fixed at Rs. 25 for children aged 5 to 12 years and Rs. 50 for visitors above 12 years, while children below five years will be admitted free.
The nominal entry charges, according to SVPMC, will help meet the aquarium’s operational and maintenance costs and ensure its proper upkeep. The Council has invited islanders, tourists and other visitors to explore the facility and experience the fascinating marine diversity of the A&N Islands.
