Mayabunder: A sustained police investigation into two temple thefts in North & Middle Andaman has culminated in the conviction of the accused, with the court handing down jail terms in both cases.
The accused was convicted on August 11, 2026, by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mayabunder, for stealing donation money from the collection boxes of Hanuman Temple at Rangat and Hari Mandir at Katai Dera after breaking open their locks.
The two cases were registered at Police Station Rangat and Police Station Kadamtala. The investigations, led by ASI Sanjay Yadav and SI Devesh Raj Singh, involved sustained follow-up and detailed evidence gathering that ultimately secured the accused’s conviction. In each case, the court awarded six months’ imprisonment under Section 380 of the IPC and another six months under Section 457 IPC, besides imposing a fine. The total fine in the two cases amounted to ₹5,000.
The conviction marks a successful culmination of the police investigation and prosecution and underscores the North & Middle Andaman District Police’s emphasis on systematic investigation and effective presentation of cases before the court.
For local residents and temple authorities, the outcome also sends a clear message that thefts targeting places of worship and public donations will not be treated lightly.
