Port Blair: Young rowers from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands made a strong mark on the national stage, returning with three medals from the 27th Sub-Junior National Rowing Championship held at Rabindra Sarobar Lake in Kolkata, West Bengal.
The Islanders combined skill, coordination and determination to secure one silver and two bronze medals across different categories, underlining the growing strength of rowing talent emerging from the Islands.
In the YJG2X category, Carelyne and Sunidhi put up an impressive performance to clinch the silver medal, displaying excellent coordination and competitive spirit.
The medal-winning run continued in the SJG2 category, where Zeeya Victor and Anu secured a bronze medal. Another bronze came in the SJG4 category, with Sanvi, Anita, Suzun and Lenity putting up a commendable performance.
The three-medal haul at a national championship is being seen as an encouraging indication of the potential of young rowers from the Islands. Their performance reflected not only their sporting ability but also the discipline, dedication and hard work invested in training and competition.
Meanwhile, President of the Andaman & Nicobar Rowing Association, G. Bhasker, along with members of the Association committee, congratulated the medal-winning rowers and their coaches on the achievement. The Association appreciated the athletes for their commitment and perseverance and expressed confidence that the young rowers would continue to raise the profile of rowing in the Islands and compete successfully at higher levels.
With three national-level medals now added to their tally, the young rowers have provided another boost to the Island’s sporting ambitions and offered a glimpse of a promising future for rowing in Andaman & Nicobar.
