Rijiju to embark on three-day Island tour; Yoga Day, development review and public outreach on agenda

Port Blair: Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, will arrive in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on a three-day visit beginning June 19, during which he is scheduled to participate in public outreach programmes, review key development initiatives and lead the International Day of Yoga celebrations in the Islands.

The visit assumes significance as the Minister will interact with residents, showcase the achievements of the Narendra Modi Government over the past 12 years and assess major infrastructure and development projects undertaken in the Union Territory.

Soon after his arrival on Friday, Rijiju will attend a Special Public Outreach Campaign at Beodnabad, where he will distribute a booklet highlighting the milestones and achievements of the Central Government during the last 12 years. He will also visit the organic coconut farm of Padma Shri awardee K. Chellammal at Rangachang and plant a sapling under the nationwide ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative.

On June 20, the Minister will undertake a “Pragati Path Yatra” to review key developmental projects executed in the Islands under various Central Government programmes. The tour will include visits to Flag Point, Gandhi Park and the newly constructed terminal building of Veer Savarkar International Airport, among other landmark projects.

Later in the day, Rijiju will participate in the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sammelan at Hotel Coral Cove, Minnie Bay, where discussions are expected to focus on development, governance and the vision of a developed India. In the evening, he will attend the Andaman Ideas Summit 2026 at Hotel Lemon Tree, bringing together stakeholders to deliberate on the Islands’ future growth and opportunities.

The Minister’s visit will culminate on June 21 with the International Day of Yoga 2026 celebrations, where he will be the chief guest. The main event is scheduled to be held at the historic Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island, though the venue will be shifted to the auditorium of Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School in the event of inclement weather.

Rijiju’s visit is expected to place the spotlight on both the developmental trajectory of the Islands and the Centre’s outreach efforts, while also reinforcing the growing prominence of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in national initiatives and public engagement programmes.
