Port Blair: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has thrown open a unique platform for young minds in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, inviting school students to turn smartphones into tools for public health awareness through the ‘ICMR SHINE-2026 Reel Making Competition’.
Organised through the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Sri Vijaya Puram, the competition is open to students of Classes IX to XII and seeks to harness the creativity of the younger generation to spread vital messages on health, hygiene and disease prevention through engaging short video reels.
The initiative aims to nurture scientific temperament, strengthen health literacy and encourage community participation by motivating students to communicate important public health messages in innovative and impactful ways. Besides showcasing their creative talent, participants will have the opportunity to contribute to campaigns promoting healthier lifestyles and greater awareness of disease prevention.
Students can submit their entries until August 12, 2026, in accordance with the competition guidelines. Detailed information on themes, submission procedures and other updates is available through the official ICMR social media platforms, which can be accessed by scanning the QR code provided in the competition poster.
Calling it a unique blend of creativity and science communication, ICMR-RMRC, Sri Vijaya Puram, has appealed to schools, teachers and parents across the Islands to encourage maximum participation. The institute said the competition offers an opportunity for students to emerge as young health ambassadors while helping disseminate scientifically sound public health messages to the wider community.
