Rangat: Reinforcing the importance of early identification and timely intervention for children with special needs, a two-day Identification and Medical Assessment Camp for Children with Special Needs (CwSN) was successfully organised by the Block Project Office (BPO), Rangat, under the Inclusive Education Programme, providing comprehensive medical, educational and rehabilitation support to children from the Rangat and Kadamtala areas.
The camp was conducted at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium, Rangat, and the Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Kadamtala, with the objective of identifying children requiring specialised care, facilitating their access to assistive services and strengthening inclusive education in government schools.
Specialist medical teams from the Community Health Centre (CHC), Rangat, Community Health Centre (CHC), Kadamtala, and experts from ALIMCO-PMDK carried out detailed assessments and provided a wide range of health and educational support services to eligible children.
During the two-day exercise, 55 Children with Special Needs (CwSN) underwent comprehensive screening, out of which 11 children were identified as suspected cases requiring further evaluation and specialised intervention. Officials said the follow-up assessments would help ensure that these children receive appropriate diagnosis, treatment and educational support at the earliest.
As part of the initiative, Teaching-Learning Material (TLM) Kits, customised to suit the individual learning requirements of eligible children, were distributed to enhance classroom participation and promote inclusive learning. The kits are expected to help children overcome learning barriers and improve their educational outcomes.
The camp provided a holistic package of services, including general health examinations, vision and eye screening, hearing assessments, dental check-ups, nutritional and dietary counselling, educational and vocational assessments, sign language support, and counselling for parents and caregivers on inclusive education and rehabilitation measures.
Officials associated with the programme said such assessment camps play a crucial role in the early detection of developmental and learning disabilities, enabling children to receive timely medical care, assistive devices, therapeutic support and appropriate educational interventions. They also help schools and parents develop individualised support plans, ensuring that every child has an equal opportunity to learn and participate in mainstream education.
The programme formed part of the Government’s continuing efforts to promote inclusive, equitable and quality education by ensuring that children with special needs are identified early, provided necessary support services and empowered to realise their full potential through a barrier-free and child-friendly learning environment.
