Mayabunder: A battered rural road has become a daily ordeal for Kamlapur residents, with potholes and damaged stretches disrupting the movement of students, farmers, workers and commuters and raising serious safety concerns.
The long-pending road issue resurfaced on Friday when Dilip Kumar Das, Panchayati Samiti Member, Harinagar, and State Secretary, BJP, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, accompanied by Kamlapur villagers, met the Assistant Commissioner (HQ), Mayabunder, and sought urgent intervention.
The delegation highlighted the deteriorating condition of the Kamlapur village road, particularly the deep potholes and severely damaged stretches that have made commuting difficult and hazardous. The villagers said the situation becomes even more challenging during adverse weather, increasing the risk of accidents and causing hardship to the local community.
Seeking immediate relief, the villagers demanded time-bound pothole repairs and restoration of the damaged portions of the road. They have given the authorities a 15-day ultimatum to initiate and complete the necessary repair and maintenance works.
The villagers warned that failure to act within the stipulated period could compel them to resort to peaceful and democratic means of agitation to press for their long-standing demand. Das assured the delegation that the matter would be brought to the notice of the concerned authorities and efforts made for an early resolution.
The villagers, meanwhile, urged the administration to treat the road issue as a priority and undertake not merely patchwork repairs but proper and sustainable restoration in the larger public interest.
