Port Blair: The Andaman & Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS), Sri Vijaya Puram, has received approval from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the Andaman & Nicobar Administration to admit 114 MBBS students for the 2026-27 academic session, marking another significant step towards strengthening medical education and healthcare capacity in the strategically important island territory.
According to an information, admissions will be conducted on the basis of NEET-2026 scores through a combination of All India Quota (AIQ) and State Quota counselling. Of the sanctioned 114 seats, 17 seats will be filled through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) under the All India Quota, while the remaining 97 seats will be allotted under the State Quota, including 10 seats for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and 87 seats across other eligible categories.
ANIIMS has invited applications from eligible NEET-2026 candidates for admission under the State Quota. However, only candidates who have qualified NEET-2026 and are eligible under the Andaman & Nicobar State Quota can apply for these 97 seats, while admissions to the 17 All India Quota seats will be carried out separately by the MCC through online counselling.
Applications will be accepted through the Common College Admission Portal as well as the official ANIIMS website. The institute has scheduled publication of the provisional merit list on August 17 at 11 am, followed by a grievance and appeal window from August 17 to August 19, after which the final merit list will be released on August 19 at 5 pm.
The first round of counselling and document verification is slated for August 21 and 22, with the last date for joining fixed as August 28. Subsequent rounds of counselling will be held on September 8 and September 26, while a stray vacancy round, if required, is scheduled for October 5. The MBBS academic session for 2026-27 will commence on September 8.
The institute has clarified that the counselling schedule is tentative and may be revised in accordance with directions issued by the Medical Counselling Committee. Candidates have been advised to regularly visit the official ANIIMS website and institute notice board for updates.
