RANGAT : Intensifying its crackdown on narcotics, the North & Middle Andaman District Police struck twice within a single day, seizing nearly 4 kg of suspected ganja in two separate intelligence-based operations and arresting two alleged traffickers, including a woman reportedly linked to an inter-state drug supply network.
The first operation at Sabari Junction, Rangat, led to the arrest of a woman from Nadia district in West Bengal after police allegedly recovered around 1.9 kg of suspected ganja from her possession. Investigators suspect she had arrived from Kolkata to supply the contraband to local drug peddlers.
Hours later, acting on another specific intelligence input, a team from Police Station Kadamtala raided a premises at Bhakta Road and recovered over 2 kg of suspected ganja, leading to the arrest of another accused. Police described it as the second NDPS case detected in the district on the same day.
Both operations were conducted under the direct supervision of Mahendra Singh Charan, DANIPS, SDPO, Rangat, and the overall supervision of Vikas Swami, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.
Police said investigations are underway to trace the source of the seized contraband and identify others involved in the alleged drug trafficking network. Reaffirming its zero-tolerance approach against narcotics, the district police appealed to the public to share information on drug-related activities through the nearest police station or emergency helplines 100 and 112, assuring complete confidentiality and rewards for credible inputs.
