Port Blair: In a major anti-encroachment drive, the South Andaman District Administration has reclaimed nearly 50,000 square metres of Government land at Mathura Village under Ferrargunj Tehsil, removing fresh illegal occupations on land reserved for grazing and public recreation.
The action followed a joint inspection by the Revenue Department, supported by line departments, Police and Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), which uncovered unauthorized encroachments on around 40,000 square metres of Government grazing land and 10,000 square metres earmarked as a playground. Officials found that the encroachers had attempted to stake illegal claims by erecting railings and planting saplings on the Government land.
Acting swiftly, the Revenue authorities launched an eviction drive and removed the encroachments, restoring the land to its original status. The operation was carried out peacefully and in accordance with the law, underscoring the Administration’s resolve to protect public assets from illegal occupation.
Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy against encroachment of Government land, the District Administration warned that any attempt to grab public land or bypass legal procedures would invite stringent action under the law.
