MAYABUNDER : Stepping up its campaign to make the roads safer, the Police and Transport Department launched a joint enforcement drive against drunken driving at Panighat, focusing on public transport vehicles and booking traffic violators as part of a coordinated road safety initiative.
The special drive was led by Inspector R.K. Mazumder, Station House Officer (SHO), Police Station Mayabunder, in coordination with the Special Traffic Checking Team and Chandra Shekar Rao, Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Mayabunder.
Government and private express buses, along with other public carriage vehicles, came under intensive scrutiny during the operation, which aimed to curb drunken driving, prevent road accidents and enhance commuter safety. Besides conducting enforcement checks, the joint team also launched an awareness campaign, educating motorists and public transport drivers about the serious risks of driving under the influence of alcohol and the legal consequences of violating traffic laws. Drivers were urged to adopt responsible driving practices and strictly comply with traffic regulations to safeguard lives on the road.
During the operation, authorities initiated legal action against offenders and issued eight challans for various traffic violations detected during the drive. The Police and Transport Department reiterated that similar enforcement drives will continue across the district to ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations and promote safer roads for all road users.
