Port Blair (Sri Vijay Puram): In a significant push towards strengthening VIP security and operational preparedness, the Andaman & Nicobar Police joined hands with the National Security Guard (NSG) to equip its personnel with specialised skills in close protection, personal security and tactical driving. A specialised PSO and Tactical Driving Course was conducted at Sri Vijaya Puram from August 17 to 28, 2026, in collaboration with Headquarters CPF, NSG, Manesar, aimed at enhancing the professional capabilities of police personnel entrusted with close protection and high-security duties.
A total of 72 Personal Security Officers (PSOs) and 30 drivers participated in the intensive training programme, which covered a wide range of critical areas, including VIP security, close protection, vehicle control, parking principles, safe and tactical driving, besides other operational aspects associated with high-risk security assignments.
The programme was conducted by an expert NSG team led by Sahi Ram, NSG Officer, through a combination of classroom lectures, demonstrations and practical exercises, providing participants with hands-on exposure to professional security protocols and tactical response techniques.
Appreciating the NSG and all stakeholders involved in organising the programme, Ravindra Singh Yadav, Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, said such specialised training plays an important role in strengthening professional competence, operational preparedness and the overall VIP security capabilities of the police force.
The programme was conceptualised and coordinated by Shweta Sugathan, Commandant, IRBn, and conducted under her guidance and supervision.
The specialised course reflects the continued emphasis of the Andaman & Nicobar Police on professional capacity building, continuous skill upgradation and the adoption of modern best practices to ensure a well-trained and operationally prepared force capable of meeting evolving security challenges.
