Mayabunder: In a strong message against crimes targeting children, the Special Judge (POCSO), North & Middle Andaman, has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl in Diglipur, marking a significant victory for justice and child protection in the Islands. The judgment, delivered on Wednesday the 10th of June 2026, relates to Crime No. 49/2023 registered at Diglipur Police Station under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. The accused, who was a neighbour of the victim, was found guilty of committing aggravated sexual assault on a minor.
The Court awarded 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012. Additionally, the accused was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and fined under Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code for criminal intimidation. The case began after a complaint was lodged regarding the sexual assault of the minor. Recognizing the gravity of the offence, Diglipur Police acted swiftly, registering a case and launching an immediate investigation.
The probe was entrusted to Sub-Inspector Deepti Minj and carried out under the supervision of the then Station House Officer, Inspector Vikash Singh.
