SAHYOG steps up for Monsoon heroes, donates 290 Raincoats to boost disaster preparedness

Port Blair: As the monsoon intensifies and disaster-response teams brace for challenging months ahead, a timely act of corporate social responsibility by SAHYOG (NGO) has provided much-needed support to frontline volunteers across South Andaman. Demonstrating its commitment to community welfare and public service, SAHYOG donated 290 raincoats to the South Andaman District Administration during a programme held at the District Office Conference Hall on Wednesday. The raincoats were formally handed over by SAHYOG President Pt. Gyan Prakash Mishra to Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Ms. Purva Garg.The initiative is aimed at strengthening disaster preparedness and ensuring that frontline personnel remain equipped to serve the public during the ongoing monsoon season. The raincoats will be distributed among Civil Defence Volunteers (CDVs) and personnel across 28 Patwari Circles in the district’s three tehsils.Civil Defence Volunteers form a crucial support network for the administration, playing an active role in emergency response, rescue and relief operations, disaster management and community outreach activities. The donated gear is expected to significantly enhance their ability to perform duties under adverse weather conditions.Appreciating the gesture, Deputy Commissioner Purva Garg lauded SAHYOG’s continued contribution towards social welfare and community resilience. She observed that such support would greatly assist volunteers engaged in public service during the monsoon. The District Administration highlighted that partnerships between civil society organisations and government agencies are vital for building a disaster-resilient community. It also acknowledged SAHYOG’s sustained efforts towards social responsibility and reaffirmed its commitment to encouraging similar collaborations for the welfare and safety of residents across South Andaman.The initiative stands as a reminder that meaningful community development is often driven not only by government action but also by responsible and compassionate interventions from voluntary organisations working at the grassroots level.
