Mayabunder: Alert night patrolling by Billiground Police foiled a suspected temple theft bid in North & Middle Andaman, leading to the arrest of a 23-year-old habitual offender even before he could execute his alleged plan. Acting on suspicion after spotting the youth loitering in Billiground market during the intervening night of June 24, police intercepted and detained Nayan Barr of Bakultala, Rangat.

During sustained interrogation, Barr allegedly confessed to his involvement in two recent temple theft cases registered at Pahargaon Police Station in South Andaman. Investigators believe he had moved to North & Middle Andaman with the intention of carrying out similar offences. Following his disclosure, the accused was handed over to Pahargaon Police for further investigation into the cases registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

The successful operation was carried out by HC (SG) IRBn Ranjan Halder, PCs Rakesh Das and Rahul Mondal, and HG(V) Sudeb Roy during routine night patrol. Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious or anti-social activities by dialling 100, 112 or 03192-273344, assuring confidentiality and suitable rewards for credible information.
