Kadamtala: A major mishap was averted in the Middle Andaman district when a private passenger bus lost control and veered off the road near Kadamtala. The vehicle sustained severe structural damage, but a potential tragedy was averted as no passengers were on board at the time of the incident.According to local eyewitnesses, the bus, operated by Sobha Transport, was navigating a stretch near Kadamtala when the driver reportedly lost control of the wheel. The momentum forced the heavy vehicle off the tarmac, coming to a halt with significant impact. Visuals from the spot showed a completely shattered front windshield and extensive damage to the chassis.Local residents rushed to the spot immediately after the crash to assist in rescue operations. However, both the driver and helper escaped without major injuries. “It was a miraculous escape. Had this occurred during peak transit hours with passengers on board, the casualties could have been severe given the impact,” a local resident noted.A recovery crane was later deployed to the site to pull the damaged wreckage back onto the road. Local authorities have initiated an inquiry to determine whether the mechanical failure or road conditions led to the loss of control. Traffic on the stretch was briefly disrupted before being restored to normalcy, sources said.
