Mayabunder: A long-pending demand of the people of Tugapur is finally set to become a reality, with the Andaman and Nicobar Administration according sanction for the construction of a motorable Steel Bridge at Tugapur No. 7 in Mayabunder at an estimated cost of Rs. 5.92 crore. The bridge, to be constructed near the residence of Amulya Bepari, is expected to significantly improve connectivity and ease the movement of people and vehicles in Tugapur and adjoining areas.
The project gained momentum after villagers and local Panchayati Raj Institution representatives pressed for a motorable bridge instead of the footbridge initially proposed at the location. The issue was discussed at a community meeting held at Tugapur No. 7 on May 14, 2025, in the presence of the Member of Parliament for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, PRI representatives and officials of the APWD.
Taking into account the persistent demand of residents and the area’s connectivity requirements, the proposal was subsequently pursued with the Administration, leading to the sanction of the much-awaited project.
The Rs. 5,91,78,968 project includes the construction of approach roads, manufacturing, supply and installation of steel bridge components, besides associated civil and structural works. The bridge is proposed to be completed within 12 months.
Once completed, the project is expected to strengthen the rural road network and provide a major boost to connectivity, bringing long-awaited relief to the residents of Tugapur and neighbouring areas.
