Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram): In a significant political shift in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, former State Youth Congress President Elayaraja Alsu has quit the Congress after a 17-year association and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), reportedly bringing along a large chunk of supporters, including youth, auto-rickshaw drivers and residents of Ward No. 3 of the Municipality.

The mass induction took place at the BJP State Headquarters at Middle Point in the presence of State BJP President Anil Tiwari and other senior party leaders.

Explaining his decision, Alsu told the media that lack of recognition and respect within the Congress hadprompted his departure. Expressing confidence in Tiwari’s leadership, he said he would continue to work with the same commitment in his new political association, focusing on public welfare.
