A high-speed motorcycle crash claimed the lives of two youths near Azad Nagar T-Junction under the Bambooflat Police Station limits on Thursday morning, in yet another tragic reminder of the dangers of reckless riding. Police said the accident was reported around 10 a.m., following which SHO Inspector S. Kannan and his team rushed to the scene. The injured riders had already been shifted to the Health and Wellness Centre (HWC), Wimberlygunj, where doctors declared both of them brought dead.
The deceased were identified as Yash Kumar (19) of Nayabasti, Bambooflat, and Sumant Kumar (20) of Shore Point. The motorcycle involved, a Hero Hunk (AN01G8448), was registered in Sumant Kumar’s name. Preliminary investigation suggests the motorcycle was travelling from Stewartgunj towards Wimberlygunj at a high speed when the rider allegedly lost control near the Azad Nagar T-Junction. The bike reportedly crashed into a concrete traffic signboard before slamming into a tree, throwing both riders into a roadside ditch and causing fatal injuries.
With no eyewitnesses immediately available, Bambooflat Police have registered a suo motu case under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
