Port Blair (Sri Vijay Puram): Fashion, creativity and community spirit came together in a colourful celebration on Wednesday with the launch of Sagar Vastrika, the latest initiative of Jhumurr’s House of Designing, at the Community Hall, NABARD Colony, Goal Ghar. The five-day exhibition, inaugurated on August 26, will remain open to visitors until August 30, from 12 noon to 8.30 pm daily.

The inaugural ceremony began on an auspicious note with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest, Malati Mandal, President, Atul Smriti Samiti (Bengali Club), accompanied by the Guest of Honour, Sumita Sanyal, an educator of the Islands. The ceremony was held in front of a beautifully decorated idol of Lord Ganesh. Adding a distinctive visual charm to the occasion, guests and participants embraced an ocean-inspired colour palette featuring shades of blue, sea green, teal, turquoise, aqua and white, complementing the theme of the new venture and creating a vibrant and festive ambience.

The exhibition also features a “More to Explore” section offering pearl and artificial jewellery, Rakhis and homemade ladoos, adding a festive and lifestyle dimension to the event. A notable feature of the initiative is its effort to provide a platform to two other independent women-led ventures in the Islands, enabling them to showcase their products and activities before a wider audience. The gesture reflects the organisers’ emphasis on encouraging women-led initiatives, creativity and community engagement.
