Port Blair: A late-night security scare at a women’s teacher trainees’ hostel in Sri Vijaya Puram has triggered a police investigation after an unidentified man allegedly trespassed into the premises, engaged in an obscene act and stole cash from a resident. This disturbing incident at the Rani Lakshmi Hostel has raised fresh concerns over the safety and security of women residing in educational institutions, with Aberdeen Police registering a case against an unidentified person for alleged trespass, an obscene act and theft.
The FIR was registered after the Principal of Tagore Government College of Education submitted a written complaint based on a report from a second-year B.Ed. trainee residing at the hostel, which is located within the Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School campus.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred at around 3 a.m. on June 28 when a hostel inmate woke up after hearing another resident scream. As several trainees stepped out of their rooms, they allegedly spotted an unidentified man unlawfully present inside the hostel premises. The complaint further alleged that CCTV footage captured the intruder moving around the hostel, including outside the bathroom area, where he was reportedly seen committing an obscene act.
The incident took a more alarming turn when one of the residents later discovered that ₹2,000 in cash was missing from her room. She suspected that the unidentified intruder had also committed the theft before fleeing the premises. The complainant stated that the incident has left hostel residents shaken and has highlighted serious concerns over security arrangements at the women’s hostel, where unauthorized access by outsiders poses a significant threat to the safety and well-being of the trainees.
Acting on the complaint, Aberdeen Police registered FIR No. 0123/2026 on July 7 under Sections 305(a) and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against an unknown accused. Police have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage and other evidence to identify and apprehend the suspect.
