Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram): Well-known Surgeon of G.B. Pant Hospital, Dr Saji Varghese has been honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at Global Health Summit 2026, recognising his distinguished contribution to the medical profession and surgical care in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The award was presented to Dr Varghese at a ceremony held at the hospital auditorium here, by Dr Lokendra, Organising Chairman of Global Health Summit 2026.
Dr Varghese, who holds MS, MCh and PDF qualifications and specialises in Minimal Access Surgery, is widely associated with surgical services and academic medicine in the Islands. The latest honour adds to a series of recognitions for the veteran medical professional.
Earlier on August 15, Dr Varghese was honoured with a Lieutenant Governor’s Commendation Certificaten in recognition of his contribution to the field of healthcare.
The twin recognitions within a short span underline Dr Varghese’s longstanding contribution to strengthening specialised surgical care and medical services in the Islands.
