Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram): The fight against drug abuse found a vibrant cultural expression at Wandoor Beach as the second day of the ongoing DC–SP Cup Inter-Village Cultural Competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from Panchayats under Ferrargunj Tehsil. Organised by the District Administration, South Andaman, under the theme ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’, the competition brought together local talent, particularly children and youth, who used the power of theatre and music to spread awareness against substance abuse and promote the vision of a drug-free society.
The participating Panchayats presented compelling Nukkad Natak and Group Singing performances before the jury and a large gathering of spectators. While the street plays delivered powerful messages on the devastating consequences of drug addiction, the musical performances echoed the call for a healthy, aware and drug-free young generation as the foundation of a developed India. The programme was graced by Shweta K. Sugathan, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman, as the chief guest. Her presence and words of encouragement added to the enthusiasm of the participants and motivated the young performers to actively contribute to the campaign against substance abuse. One of the highlights of the programme was the energetic involvement of children and youth, who displayed remarkable confidence, creativity and commitment in using their performances as a medium to communicate an important social message.
The event demonstrated how cultural platforms can play an effective role in reaching communities and inspiring young people to stay away from drugs. The audience too responded enthusiastically, with the picturesque Wandoor Beach turning into a lively platform for social awareness, cultural expression and community participation.
At the conclusion of the programme, the jury members were felicitated by the Superintendent of Police, South Andaman, in recognition of their valuable contribution towards the successful conduct of the competition.
The second day of the DC–SP Cup Inter-Village Cultural Competition concluded on a successful note, marked by spirited performances and strong public participation. The cultural campaign will culminate with the Grand Finale at Corbyn’s Cove Beach on September 5, 2026, where the participating teams are expected to once again showcase their talent while carrying forward the powerful message of ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’.
