Port Blair (Sri Vijay Puram): The district administration has stepped up efforts to assess and address drinking water requirements across South Andaman, with Jal Seva Aankalan (JSA) completed in 67 of the district’s 89 villages. Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Purva Garg, chaired a meeting of the newly constituted District Technical Unit (DTU) to review the progress of the exercise and expedite verification of village-level assessments.
During the meeting, officials informed that JSA forms from the 67 villages had been submitted through the e-Gram Swaraj portal. The DTU has been tasked with technically verifying the submitted assessments and ensuring that identified water-supply requirements are properly examined.
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the water-supply assessment for Mamyo and Loha Barrack villages under Chouldhari Panchayat, which were jointly visited by the Member of Parliament on August 13. The Executive Engineer, PHED, who is also the Member Secretary of the DTU, informed the meeting that the estimate for water-supply works in the two villages is currently under consideration of the Administration for sanction on top priority.
