Port Blair: In a significant push towards technology-driven policing and faster emergency response, Lieutenant Governor and Vice-Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, Admiral D.K. Joshi (Retd.), on Wednesday inaugurated a state-of-the-art Cyber Forensic Training Laboratory at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Police Training Institute (NSCBPTI) and flagged off two newly inducted Fire Tenders for the Fire & Emergency Services.
The ceremony was attended by the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police and senior officers of the Administration, Police and Fire & Emergency Services.
The Cyber Forensic Training Laboratory has been established to strengthen cybercrime investigations by providing specialised training to police recruits and serving personnel in digital forensics and the scientific handling of electronic evidence under the country’s new criminal laws.
Equipped with advanced forensic tools, including Write Blockers, CDR and IPDR Analysis Software, e-Sakshya Tablets, SIM Extractor, Mobile Check, Cyber Check and True Imager, the facility will enhance investigators’ ability to collect, preserve and analyse digital evidence.
The Lieutenant Governor also flagged off two modern Fire Tenders, which are expected to improve operational readiness, reduce response time and enhance the Fire & Emergency Services’ capacity to respond effectively to fires and other emergencies across the Union Territory.
Addressing the gathering, Admiral Joshi stressed the need for continuous adoption of modern technology and regular skill upgradation of frontline personnel to meet emerging public safety challenges. He also commended the Andaman & Nicobar Police for embracing technology-driven policing and promoting scientific investigation.
The Director General of Police said the new laboratory reflects the department’s commitment to modernisation, capacity building and effective implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023.
Officials said the inauguration of the Cyber Forensic Training Laboratory and induction of the two new Fire Tenders mark another milestone in the modernisation of the Andaman & Nicobar Police and Fire & Emergency Services, reinforcing the Administration’s commitment to a technologically advanced, professionally trained and citizen-centric public safety system.
