Port Blair: The South Andaman District Administration has intensified its anti-encroachment campaign, reclaiming around 2,500 square metres of Government land after demolishing nine illegal encroachments during a major eviction drive at Garacharma on Monday. The operation, carried out by Revenue authorities near Attam Pahar Junction, resulted in the removal of five unauthorised structures and four illegally fenced enclosures that had come up on Government Revenue land.
Officials said the reclaimed land has been restored to its original condition as part of the Administration’s sustained efforts to protect public property from unlawful occupation. The eviction forms part of an ongoing district-wide campaign aimed at safeguarding Government land, preserving public spaces and ensuring their lawful use for community welfare. Revenue officials have been maintaining regular surveillance and taking prompt action against fresh instances of encroachment across the district.
The Administration has appealed to residents not to encroach upon Government land and to report any illegal occupation or unauthorised construction. Citizens can share information through the District Control Room or via the designated WhatsApp helpline, with officials assuring complete confidentiality of informants.
The District Administration said the anti-encroachment drive will continue in the coming days as part of its commitment to protect Government assets and promote planned and orderly development across South Andaman.
