Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram): Promises of securing Peon jobs in the Military Engineering Services (MES), Brichgunj, have landed two persons in separate police cases, with Aberdeen Police registering FIRs against K. Ayyappa and Shakti Banerjee over allegations that money was collected from families on the assurance of securing government jobs for their children.
Though registered on separate complaints, the two FIRs contain strikingly similar accounts involving the same two accused and allege that a total of ₹3.70 lakh was collected from two families for four promised appointments.
According to one FIR, the episode began in October 2025 when a Government Department driver allegedly approached Ayyappa regarding employment opportunities for his children. Ayyappa allegedly told him that Peon vacancies were available in MES, Brichgunj, and that he could arrange a job for ₹1.50 lakh.
The complainant was subsequently introduced to Banerjee, who was allegedly represented as holding a senior position in MES. Banerjee allegedly assured the complainant that the appointment could be facilitated and initially sought ₹60,000 towards medical formalities.
The FIR records a series of alleged payments, including transactions through Google Pay as well as cash payments, followed by assurances that the recruitment process was progressing and that medical formalities and appointment-related papers were being completed. The complainant further alleged that Ayyappa and Banerjee later visited his residence and collected another ₹80,000, assuring him that the job arrangements were being made. However, the promised appointment allegedly never materialised. The total amount allegedly taken in this case was ₹1.50 lakh.
The second FIR narrates a similar sequence involving the same accused, but concerns two daughters of another family. According to the complaint, the family was introduced to the alleged job arrangement through the Government Department driver, whose daughters had earlier been classmates with the complainant’s daughters. The complainant alleged that he was called to the driver’s residence at Shadipur in October 2025, where Ayyappa and Banerjee were present. Banerjee allegedly claimed to be holding a senior position in the Army and having contacts within the organisation. He allegedly offered to arrange Peon posts for the two daughters in Army MES, Brichgunj, for ₹1.10 lakh per appointment.
Payments were allegedly made in instalments through cash and Google Pay between October 2025 and January 2026, with amounts allegedly paid to both Ayyappa and Banerjee. The FIR puts the total amount allegedly collected from this family at ₹2.20 lakh. When the appointments failed to materialise, the complainant said he demanded that the money be returned. According to the FIR, both accused allegedly assured him that the amount would be repaid, but the money was not returned.
The complainants subsequently approached Aberdeen Police, alleging that the accused had acted in concert to induce them to part with money on the promise of securing MES jobs.
Police have registered the two cases on the basis of the complaints, and the allegations remain subject to investigation and due legal process.
