Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram): From emerging victorious in the Islands’ State-level football tournament to taking on the country’s best young footballers, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands’ U-17 Boys Football Team is ready for its biggest challenge yet—the 65th Subroto Mukerjee Cup International Football Tournament 2026, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from September 15 to 24.
The team earned its place in the prestigious tournament after winning the State-level Football Tournament held in April this year. The victory paved the way for the young footballers to represent the Islands on the national stage.
In preparation for the championship, the selected players underwent rigorous and advanced training at Netaji Stadium, Sri Vijaya Puram, under the guidance of qualified coaches and Physical Education Teachers.
Ahead of the team’s departure, Director (Education) Aditya Sangotra met the players, Team Coach and Team Manager at the Directorate of Education, Sri Vijaya Puram, on September 12. He blessed the team and conveyed his best wishes for a successful campaign.
The Islands’ young footballers now face the challenge of competing in one of the country’s most prestigious school football tournaments, carrying the hopes of Andaman and Nicobar with them to New Delhi.
