Diglipur: A late-night police raid at Sitanagar has led to the seizure of approximately 270 grams of suspected heroin and the arrest of a man from Kadamtala, in a major narcotics haul reported by North & Middle Andaman District Police. Acting on reliable intelligence, a team from Diglipur Police Station conducted the raid on September 12, 2026, and intercepted the suspect, identified as a resident of Shantanu, Kadamtala.
A search of his possession led to the recovery of the suspected contraband. The substance was tested on the spot using a drug detection kit and reportedly yielded a positive result for heroin. The seized substance was taken into police custody in accordance with prescribed legal procedures. The accused was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Further investigation is in progress to establish the source of the suspected heroin and ascertain whether the arrested person was linked to a wider narcotics supply network. The seizure comes as North & Middle Andaman District Police reiterates its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking, asserting that intelligence-led operations and strict legal action against those involved in narcotics-related activities will continue across the district.
Police have appealed to the public to share credible information about drug-related activities through emergency numbers 100, 112 or the nearest police station. The identity of informants will be kept confidential, and suitable rewards will be provided for actionable information.
