Port Blair: The fight against drug abuse received a cultural boost in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as the Directorate of Social Welfare felicitated the Police Entertainment Team for its outstanding contribution to spreading anti-drug awareness through engaging performances under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) and the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA).

The team was honoured during a felicitation ceremony chaired by the Director of Social Welfare, who presented medals of appreciation to the members in recognition of their sustained efforts to educate the public—particularly children and youth—about the dangers of substance abuse. Blending music, dance, entertainment and powerful social messages, the Police Entertainment Team has emerged as an effective medium for promoting the vision of a drug-free society.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director of Social Welfare lauded the team’s commitment and said that community participation and inter-departmental collaboration are essential to achieving the goal of a Nasha Mukt Bharat. The Director observed that the team’s innovative and interactive approach has made awareness campaigns more engaging, relatable and impactful among diverse sections of society.

Reaffirming its commitment to the anti-drug campaign, the Directorate of Social Welfare urged Government Departments, educational institutions, Panchayati Raj Institutions, NGOs and other stakeholders to organise awareness programmes on drug abuse prevention. The Directorate continues to extend support for such initiatives under NAPDDR to strengthen the collective movement against substance abuse.

The general public has also been encouraged to take the Nasha Mukt Bharat e-Pledge and motivate family members, friends and colleagues to join the campaign. Officials stressed that every citizen can play a meaningful role in creating a healthier, safer and addiction-free India by becoming an ambassador for a drug-free lifestyle.
