Port Blair(Sri Vijaya Puram): A two-wheeler mechanic died after his scooter was allegedly hit by a truck at Junglighat on September 23, minutes after he left his workplace saying he was heading to hospital as he was unwell. The deceased was identified as Chandran, who worked as a mechanic at Annai Auto Garage, Junglighat.
According to the FIR registered at Aberdeen Police Station, the accident occurred near Montu Garage when truck AN01 C 2255 allegedly collided with the scooter ridden by Chandran. The FIR records the statement of S. Velu, owner of Annai Auto Garage, who said Chandran had been absent from work for nearly a week. When he reported at the garage around 10.30 am on September 23, Velu reportedly asked him about his absence.
Chandran allegedly said he was not keeping well and intended to go to hospital. He then left the garage on his scooter. Around five minutes later, Velu was informed that a road accident had taken place nearby. He rushed to the spot and, according to his statement, found Chandran and the scooter near the left rear wheels of the truck. Chandran had sustained fatal injuries.
Aberdeen Police have registered a case under Sections 106(1) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, concerning death caused by negligence and rash driving. The truck driver has been named as the accused in the FIR, and police have taken up the investigation.
