Port Blair: Intensifying its sustained offensive against narcotics trafficking in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the Anti-Narcotics Police Station (ANPS), CID, scored another major breakthrough by arresting a suspected drug peddler and seizing 2.145 kg of ganja during a late-night raid at Bathu Basti on July 20.
Acting on specific intelligence about illegal possession of ganja for sale in the local market, the ANPS swiftly formed a raiding team and conducted a search at a rented house on CARI Road after completing all legal formalities in the presence of independent witnesses and the house owner.
The operation led to the arrest of Shyamapada Mandal (41), a private labourer residing at CARI Road, Bathu Basti. During the search, police recovered 2.145 kg of ganja, which was confirmed using a Drug Detection Kit before being seized under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985. The accused was arrested on the spot.
Police said investigations are underway to trace the source of the contraband and identify the wider supply network behind the illegal trade. The raid was led by Inspector K. Binoj, SHO, Anti-Narcotics Police Station,
under the supervision of Suma Madda, Dy.SP (Narcotics).
Describing the operation as another significant success in the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking, the Andaman & Nicobar Police reiterated its resolve to dismantle narcotics networks and protect the Islands from the growing menace of drugs.
