Port Blair: Fresh allegations of illegal tree felling, hill cutting and land levelling for commercial plotting in Beadnabad have prompted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to seek the Deputy Commissioner’s immediate intervention, warning that unchecked violations could cause irreversible environmental damage. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has urged Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Purva Garg, to take immediate action against the alleged illegal felling of trees, hill cutting, earth excavation and land levelling being carried out for plotting and sale of land in Beadnabad Panchayat.

In a representation submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, the Party’s Team Leader Dr Arun Kumar Mallik alleged that developers, promoters and real estate agents were carrying out large-scale environmental violations in the area in contravention of land and environmental regulations. He sought immediate intervention to halt the activities and initiate legal proceedings against those responsible. Referring to an earlier complaint and subsequent action by the district administration under its “Zero Tolerance to Encroachments and Illegal Constructions” drive, Dr Mallik appreciated the administration’s prompt response but claimed that fresh instances of illegal land development and encroachments continue to surface.

The representation also alleged that several real estate agents operating in the Islands were functioning without registration under the Tamil Nadu Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TNRERA) applicable to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. It further claimed that land, including allegedly encroached properties, was being openly advertised for sale and sought an investigation into such transactions.
The AAP leader also drew attention to alleged fresh earth filling on revenue land along the seashore at Rangachang No. 2 under Beadnabad Panchayat.
