Port Blair ( Sri Vijaya Puram): Withdrawal of police cases against protesters in the Vimla medical negligence case, revival of the Janta Darbar at Raj Niwas and an early visit to North and Middle Andaman figured prominently in a meeting between the BJP State President Anil Tiwari and Lieutenant Governor Prof. Dr. Dinesh Sharma. He welcomed the LG’s recent public outreach, including surprise hospital inspections, beach-cleaning drives and consultations with PRIs and civil society representatives. He also thanked the administration for reducing stamp duty on property deeds among blood relatives to a nominal ₹200, calling it long-pending relief for islanders.
Seeking relief for those booked during protests following Vimla’s death, allegedly linked to delays in medical care, Tiwari urged the administration to withdraw the FIRs, saying the largely peaceful demonstrators had taken to the streets to express their anguish. The LG, he said, assured a review of the cases.
He also sought restoration of the Janta Darbar at Raj Niwas, stressing the need for a direct grievance-redressal platform for islanders. The LG reportedly assured that public hearings would resume shortly.
Following his recent visit to Diglipur and Mayabunder, Tiwari also urged the LG to tour North and Middle Andaman and assess road connectivity, water supply, infrastructure and livelihood concerns. The LG reportedly indicated that the visit would take place within the next 10–15 days.
