Niel Island (Shaheed Dweep): Tourist convenience at Shaheed Dweep is set for a boost with the Tourism Department initiating a series of measures following Lt. Governor Dr. Dinesh Sharma’s visit to the island on September 27 and 28. Acting on the Lt. Governor’s directions, the Department has invited tenders for deploying battery-operated golf carts at the jetty, aimed at easing the movement of tourists and passengers between the embarkation/disembarkation point and the jetty’s main gate.

The proposed service is expected to particularly benefit elderly visitors, families travelling with children and tourists carrying luggage, reducing the physical effort involved in negotiating the jetty. The Administration has simultaneously moved to improve the visitor experience at the island’s beaches. An adequate number of benches, including benches with attached tables and standalone seating, have been installed at various beaches.

The new seating facilities are intended to provide tourists with convenient places to rest and spend time at the beaches, adding a basic but important amenity to the island’s tourism infrastructure. The measures underline a shift towards improving not merely tourist destinations but also the last-mile experience of visitors, from arrival at the jetty to their time at the beaches.
