Port Blair/Lucknow: Environmental sustainability and the emerging climate challenges facing the Andaman and Nicobar Islands came under focus as Lt. Governor Dr. Dinesh Sharma held discussions with a group of experts and faculty members of the University of Lucknow.
The interaction was held during a programme organised by the University’s Department of Geology at the ONGC Centre on the university campus. The discussions provided an academic platform to examine the Islands’ fragile ecosystem, environmental conditions and the need for scientific approaches to address emerging climate-related concerns.
With the Andaman and Nicobar Islands being ecologically sensitive and strategically important, the interaction assumes significance in the context of balancing development requirements with environmental protection. Inputs from experts in geology, zoology, advanced computing, molecular genetics, food technology and other disciplines could help strengthen a multidisciplinary approach towards the Islands’ environmental and developmental challenges.

Saini, Head of the Department of Zoology Prof. Amita Kanaujia, Senior Professor of Geology and Programme Coordinator Prof. Dhruv Sen Singh, Superintendent of the Works Department Prof. Vineet Kumar Verma, Director of the Institute for Development of Advanced Computing Prof. Puneet Mishra, Director of the Institute of Advanced Molecular Genetics and Infectious Diseases Prof. Dr. Monisha Banerjee and Director of the Institute of Food Processing and Technology Prof. C.R. Gautam were among those present.
Prof. Avadhesh Tripathi, Dr. A.K. Kulshrestha, Dr. Sudhir Shukla, Dr. Sripad Jain and other faculty members and experts also participated in the interaction.
