VSI airport set to kick off 30-day drive to sharpen passenger services, safety and airport facilitation

Port Blai(Sri Vijaya Puram): Passenger convenience, cleaner facilities and a more courteous airport experience will come under the spotlight at Veer Savarkar International Airport as VSI Airport, Sri Vijaya Puram, launches the “Yatri Sewa Abhiyan 2026” from September 17. The month-long campaign, to continue till October 10, is part of the Airports Authority of India’s initiative to strengthen passenger facilitation and service quality at its airports. Being conducted under the theme “Seva & Sankalp – Service with Smile”, the campaign will cover virtually every stage of the passenger journey—from arrival and parking to check-in, security, boarding and departure.

The opening programme on September 17 will include a formal launch by HMCA/APD, recitation of Vande Mataram, a folk dance and cultural presentation, passenger assistance activities and a selfie activity with PM booths in the approved design.

A major thrust will be on making the airport cleaner, safer and easier to navigate. This will include improved land-side cleanliness, hassle-free parking and connectivity, adequate seating, better accessibility for Divyangjan/Persons with Reduced Mobility and senior citizens, effective way-finding and passenger information systems, safe baggage handling and courteous security facilitation.

The campaign will also review the availability of potable water and essential passenger amenities, while promoting digital services such as Digi Yatra and airport Wi-Fi. With the Andaman & Nicobar Islands receiving visitors from across the country, the airport will also seek to strengthen the “Atithi Devo Bhava” experience by showcasing local culture. Women-, children- and family-friendly facilities will receive attention, alongside passenger feedback and grievance redressal mechanisms.

Other focus areas will include flight information and punctuality, Swachhata, sustainable airport practices, medical and emergency preparedness, and initiatives aimed at motivating frontline personnel to deliver a consistent “Service with Smile” experience.The concluding phase will turn the spotlight on UDAN and first-time flyers, stakeholder coordination, comprehensive facility and service-quality audits and verification of improvements made during the campaign.

The Abhiyan will conclude on October 10 with a valedictory programme featuring recognition of frontline staff and stakeholders, presentation of measurable improvements and passenger feedback, and formulation of a sustenance plan to ensure that the gains achieved during the campaign continue beyond the 30-day drive.

VSI Airport said the initiative is intended not merely as a campaign but as an effort to build a lasting culture of Seva, Swachhata, Sahyog and “Service with Smile”, placing passenger experience at the heart of airport operations.
