Marriage refusal turns fatal: 20-year-old woman Killed in Kalighat

Diglipur: A 20-year-old woman was allegedly murdered at Kalighat on Saturday after she refused a marriage proposal from a man known to her family, triggering a violent assault that left her fatally injured.
According to police, the accused visited the victim’s residence on the morning of September 5, 2026, and asked her to marry him. When she declined the proposal, he allegedly turned aggressive and attacked her first with an iron pipe and subsequently with a machete, inflicting grievous injuries.

The woman succumbed to her injuries, prompting Kalighat Police Station to launch an immediate investigation and register a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The investigation has been taken over by Sub-Inspector Shibendra Nath Halder, SHO, PS Kalighat.

Moving swiftly, the investigating officer, accompanied by a forensic team, examined the crime scene and collected crucial corroborative evidence. Police also seized the alleged weapon of offence and other relevant articles as part of the investigation.
The accused was subsequently arrested and is currently facing further legal proceedings. Police said the investigation remains underway, with efforts focused on establishing the complete sequence of events and collecting all available evidence in the case.
