Diglipur: Stepping up its crackdown on the illegal drug trade, Diglipur Police conducted two separate anti-narcotics operations on Saturday, arresting two persons and seizing suspected contraband, including around 104 grams of ganja and four suspected cannabis plants.
Acting on reliable intelligence, a police team led by SI Mohd. Rafique, In-Charge of Police Station Diglipur, intercepted a person near Subashgram and allegedly recovered approximately 104 grams of suspected ganja from his possession.
In a separate operation at Sagar Dweep, police detected and recovered four suspected cannabis plants allegedly being cultivated behind a residential house.
Both accused were arrested and cases registered at Police Station Diglipur under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985. Investigation is underway to establish the source of the suspected contraband and determine whether others were involved in the illegal activity.
The twin operations underline the North & Middle Andaman District Police’s stepped-up intelligence-led campaign against narcotics, with the district police reiterating its zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and cultivation.
Police said enforcement operations would continue across the district, while urging residents to act as the first line of defence against the spread of drugs by sharing information on suspected narcotics-related activities. Information can be provided by calling 100 or 112, or by approaching the nearest police station. Police said the identity of informants would be kept confidential and suitable rewards provided for actionable information.
