Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram): The Andaman & Nicobar Police have earned national-level recognition for their strong performance in cybercrime prevention, investigation and victim assistance, with the Union Territory recording excellent results across parameters assessed under the State/UT Cybercrime Performance Matrix. The recognition came during the 52nd PRAGATI Review Meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, which assessed the performance of States and Union Territories for the period from January 1 to August 20, 2026.
The assessment covered key areas of cybercrime response, including prevention, investigation, victim support, inter-agency coordination and capacity building. The A&N Police performed strongly across major initiatives such as the State Cybercrime Coordination Centre (S4C), e-Zero FIR, Grievance Redressal and Money Restoration modules, Sahyog and Samanvay platforms, cybercrime hotspot action, CyTrain and public awareness activities.
As part of its strengthened cybercrime infrastructure, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Cybercrime Coordination Centre (ANI4C) has been operationalised, while the e-Zero FIR mechanism has also been implemented in the Union Territory. In a major victim-centric initiative, the A&N Police have lowered the threshold for registration of FIRs in cyber financial fraud cases from ₹1 lakh to ₹50,000. Victims suffering financial losses of ₹50,000 and above can now receive quicker legal and investigative assistance.
The police have also boosted their technical capabilities by establishing a dedicated Cyber Forensic Training Laboratory at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Police Training Institute. The facility is aimed at providing practical training in digital forensics and scientific handling of electronic evidence to both newly recruited and serving police personnel.
Significantly, prompt intervention and coordinated action by the A&N Police led to the recovery or restoration of ₹1,72,51,012 to victims of cyber financial fraud during the assessment period. The national recognition reflects the growing focus of the A&N Police on technology-driven policing, faster cybercrime response, professional investigation and improved protection for citizens in the digital space.
The police have also stressed the importance of public vigilance and immediate reporting of cyber fraud.
