Diglipur: Acting on credible intelligence, the Diglipur Police have intercepted three persons near Subashgram and seized approximately 28 kg of suspected venison, in a significant action against the alleged illegal transportation and sale of wildlife meat in North Andaman. The operation was carried out on August 30 after Police Station Diglipur received specific information regarding the suspected illegal movement and sale of wildlife meat in the area.
Acting swiftly, a police team conducted intensive checking near Subashgram and intercepted the three persons. During the search, the team recovered approximately 28 kg of suspected venison from their possession, which was immediately seized.
The Forest Department was subsequently informed about the recovery. The three persons, along with the seized suspected wildlife meat, were handed over to the Forest Department for further investigation and initiation of legal action under the relevant provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
The seizure once again underscores the continuing vigilance of the North & Middle Andaman Police against wildlife-related offences and highlights the importance of close coordination between law-enforcement agencies and the Forest Department in protecting the Islands’ rich and fragile biodiversity. Police have appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and share credible information about crimes and other illegal activities with the nearest police station or through the emergency helplines 100/112.
The police assured that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential and suitable rewards would be considered for actionable information leading to successful enforcement action.
