PORT BLAIR: The Andaman and Nicobar Pradesh Mahila Congress has intensified its campaign for gender equity, issuing a strong demand for the immediate, ground-level implementation of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Women’s Reservation Bill) to secure true empowerment and due respect for women in all spheres of life. Addressing a media briefing and party gathering in Port Blair, the leadership, acting under the national directives of All India Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba, sharply questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the continued delay in executing the 33% legislative reservation passed back in 2023.

Speakers led by the State Mahila Congress chief Zubaida Begum emphasized that despite women constituting half the nation’s population, they are still forced to hit the streets to fight for fundamental rights, stressing that the central government must move past mere political rhetoric and deliver immediate structural change.

While that historic step successfully enabled women to thrive in local governance, the party asserted that the same standard must now be aggressively applied to Parliament. This expansion is essential to ensuring that representatives from every background—including rural areas and OBC communities—finally have a seat at the national legislative table.
