Massive turnout marks Rangat Monsoon Marathon, spreading message of health and harmony

Rangat : Sending out a strong message on healthy living, social harmony and environmental responsibility, the Rangat Monsoon Marathon-2026 drew an impressive participation of 292 runners from different parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands at Nimbutala on Saturday.

Organized by the Office of the Assistant Commissioner, Middle Andaman, Rangat, in coordination with Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and various line departments, the marathon was held under the theme “Run for Health • Unity • Environment.” 

The enthusiastic turnout of students and members of the public underscored the growing awareness and acceptance of fitness-oriented community initiatives aimed at promoting the well-being of society.The marathon was flagged off by the Assistant Commissioner, Middle Andaman, Deepanshu Vohra, along with Pramukh Sita Majhi, in the presence of Zilla Parishad Member R. Madhavan, PRI representatives, Heads of various departments and a large gathering of residents.

The event featured a 10-km Men’s Run and a 5-km Women’s Run through designated routes covering Nimbutala, Kali Mandir, Amkunj, Chitrakut and adjoining areas. A total of 195 men and 97 women participated, making the event one of the largest community sporting gatherings in the region in recent times.

The organizers said the marathon was intended not only to encourage physical fitness but also to strengthen the spirit of unity among people while creating awareness about the importance of protecting the environment. The enthusiastic participation from across the islands reflected the success of the initiative in inspiring people to adopt healthier lifestyles and contribute towards a cleaner and greener future.

The top three finishers in both categories were honoured with cash prizes, trophies and certificates. The first prize carried Rs.10,000, while the second and third prize winners received Rs.7,000 and Rs.5,000, respectively. In the men’s category, G. Ram of Mayabunder secured first place, followed by Asim Kujur of Prothrapur, Sri Vijaya Puram, in second position and M. Chandrasekhar of Brijgunj, Sri Vijaya Puram, in third. In the women’s category, Phool Kumari of Padmanabhapuram emerged victorious, while Amrika Das of Diglipur and Sanjana Bai of Pathergudda, Sri Vijaya Puram, finished second and third, respectively.
