Baratang (Middle Andaman): Nearly 500 islanders benefited from a multi-speciality medical camp organised at Baratang by INHS Dhanvantari and the Station Health Organisation, Sri Vijaya Puram, as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC).
Conducted under the aegis of Headquarters ANC, the outreach initiative brought specialist healthcare closer to the island community, with consultations offered in Medicine, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Radiology and Dentistry.
The camp was conducted by Surg Cdr Prasant Panda, CSO (Med), and inaugurated by the Chief of Staff, HQ ANC. Specialists screened patients, identified various health conditions and provided treatment advice, counselling and referrals for further management. Surgical and antenatal cases were also evaluated and counselled.
The initiative was supported by PHC Baratang and the local Administration, facilitating access to specialist services for residents who may otherwise have to travel to Sri Vijaya Puram for consultation and further treatment.
Extending the outreach beyond clinical services, the Community Medicine Specialist and Officer-in-Charge, Station Health Organisation, conducted a health-awareness session at the Health & Wellness Centre, Flat Bay, focusing on preventive healthcare.
A separate interactive session was held for students of SS School, Baratang, covering adolescent health, personal hygiene and healthy lifestyle practices. The students were also encouraged to explore career opportunities in the Armed Forces. The medical camp formed part of the ANC’s Silver Jubilee outreach initiatives aimed at strengthening community engagement and extending healthcare and health-awareness services to island communities.
