Port Blair/Delhi: If social media rumours are to be believed, the familiar Aadhaar card is set for a makeover. But the government has said there is no such change in the works, dismissing claims that Aadhaar will soon be issued only in a smaller format carrying a photograph and QR code as false and misleading.
The clarification comes amid a wave of social media posts claiming that the existing Aadhaar card design is being replaced by a compact version containing limited details. The claims have triggered confusion among Aadhaar holders, prompting the government to step in and set the record straight.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has categorically clarified that no proposal to change the design or format of the Aadhaar card to a smaller version is under consideration.
The Ministry has advised citizens not to fall for or circulate such unverified claims, stressing that reports suggesting an imminent redesign of the Aadhaar card are misleading.
The clarification effectively puts to rest speculation that the government is planning to replace the existing Aadhaar card with a smaller card displaying only a photograph and QR code.
The development also underscores the need for citizens to verify such claims through official government channels before sharing them on social media, particularly when they relate to identity documents and public services.
For now, there is no change in the Aadhaar card design or format, and Aadhaar holders need not take any action based on the viral claims.
