Port Blair: Creating awareness about the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, is vital for ensuring safe, dignified and inclusive workplaces. With this objective, a sensitization programme on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) at the workplace was recently organised at GB Pant Hospital, bringing together doctors, nursing officers, paramedical personnel and other hospital employees.
The workshop was jointly organised by the NGO Rights for All and the Directorate of Health Services to educate employees about their rights and responsibilities under the POSH Act while fostering a workplace culture founded on dignity, equality and mutual respect.
The programme was inaugurated by the Director of Health Services and the Medical Superintendent of GB Pant Hospital, who stressed the need to maintain a work environment free from sexual harassment and to ensure that every employee feels safe, respected and empowered.
The technical session was conducted by POSH Consultant and Senior Subject Expert, Ms. Rubina Siddiqui, who delivered a comprehensive presentation on the provisions of the POSH Act. She explained the various forms of workplace sexual harassment, preventive measures, employees’ rights and obligations, the complaint redressal process, and the role of the Internal Committee in ensuring timely and fair resolution of complaints.
The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which participants sought clarifications on legal provisions and practical aspects of implementing the POSH Act in workplace settings. The initiative was widely appreciated for reinforcing awareness and strengthening institutional commitment towards creating a safe, respectful and harassment-free working environment for all employees.
