Port Blair: An attack on a restaurant in one of thiscapitalc city’s busiest commercial pockets has evolved into more than just a criminal investigation—it has become a test of the administration’s resolve to deal firmly and swiftly with allegedCertainly. In a significant development, the Andaman and Nicobar Police have arrested two persons in connection with the attack on the Food Fantasy restaurant in the Goalghar–Junglighat area, while issuing notices under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to five others as the investigation gathers pace.

According to information available, Deep Singh and Jeet Singh, both residents of Prem Nagar, were produced before the competent court on Monday. The court remanded Deep Singh to judicial custody, while Jeet Singh was granted bail. The police said the investigation is continuing and that notices have been served to five other individuals to join the probe.

The incident, which drew widespread public attention over the past several days, sparked concern among residents, traders and business owners over safety in one of the city’s prominent commercial areas. The alleged attack also fuelled a broader debate on the need for prompt and visible enforcement against those accused of disturbing public order, irrespective of their background or influence.

Public scrutiny intensified after questions were raised over the pace of the investigation. Councillor Aziz Ur Rahman, Youth Congress leader M. A. Sajid and representatives of the Telugu community were among those who publicly demanded expeditious action and called for the identification and arrest of all those allegedly involved.

While the investigation is still underway and the guilt or innocence of those named will ultimately be determined through the legal process, the case has once again highlighted the importance of timely policing and impartial enforcement of the law. Residents and the business community have increasingly voiced the view that any instance of alleged violence or vandalism in the heart of the city warrants a swift response—not only to uphold the rule of law but also to reinforce public confidence that commercial establishments and citizens can conduct their daily lives without fear or intimidation.
